Grain and Seed Packaging Machine Selection Guide

Rice, cereal grains and many agricultural seeds are free-flowing products that can be weighed and discharged into a vertical form fill seal machine. The complete line must match bulk density, piece size, dust, target weight and the final bag—not simply the product name.

Published HYS Configuration Facts

  • Published VFFS models: 320, 420 and 520
  • Published speed range: 25–55 bags/min
  • Published bag range: L 20–320 mm, W 20–250 mm across the three models
  • The published 0.5–50 g dose range applies to all three VFFS models

Final model, feeder, accuracy and output are confirmed from product and package samples.

Custom functions: Nitrogen flushing, dust extraction, metal detection and checkweighing require a customized machine or line configuration.

Recommended Packaging Route

  • A linear or multihead weigher is commonly evaluated for free-flowing whole grains and seeds.
  • VFFS forms bags from rollstock and can support pillow or selected gusseted formats.
  • A premade pouch machine may be preferred when zipper or supplied stand-up bags are required.
  • Very fine seed, dusty product or wide weight ranges require product-specific dosing tests.

Accuracy, Dust and Product Flow

  • Bulk density and piece-size variation affect each weighing cycle and achievable accuracy.
  • Dust extraction or sealing-zone protection may be required for dusty products.
  • Hopper angles, vibration and contact surfaces should prevent bridging and residual product.
  • Fragile or high-value seed may require gentler transfer and reduced drop height.

Specification Checklist

  • Product sample, bulk density, particle range and target fill weights.
  • Bag dimensions, film structure, seal style and coding requirements.
  • Target bags per minute and upstream/downstream handling.
  • Cleaning, food-contact and site electrical requirements.
